Kinesiology Taping

IMG_4996.jpg

What is KT Taping?

Kinesiology tape was developed in Japan back in 1978 by Dr. Kenzo Kase as a way to support and stabilize traumatized muscles and joints. Since then KT tape has become a widespread tool used at nearly every level of athletic performance.

Taping has been found to produce multiple beneficial outcomes; these include improving range of motion of joints, decreasing pain, postponing fatigue and even speeding aspects of the healing process.

Common Questions

  • How long does it stay on?

    • KT tape will typically stay on for 3 to 5 days. It can get wet and stay on no problem, so feel free to work out or bathe with it on as well.

  • Are there any side effects?

    • While the glue that is used is hypoallergenic, some will still react to it. If that happens we recommend you take it off immediately. People with thinner skin (common in geriatric patients) should also use a less adhesive glue.

  • Can I apply it myself?

    • Absolutely! Some areas will be more difficult to tape, but there are many excellent resources online to guide you. If you want to have some hands on training as well, come in and we will show you how to apply the tape for your specific needs.
